The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of the Cyprus Institute is organizing a High Performance Computing (HPC) training course on Wednesday 12th December 2012, 10:00 – 17:00 at The Cyprus Institute (Athalassa Campus) in Nicosia. The one day workshop is part of the LinkSCEEM/Cy-Tera user meeting series, which aims at developing and supporting the Cypriot HPC user community. The workshop is being organised in the framework of LinkSCEEM-2 and Cy-Tera projects.
It was proven for a wide range of scientific applications that GPU’s outperform CPU’s. Many supercomputers worldwide now offer highly efficient GPU clusters. Cy-Tera, the flagship High Performance Computer at The Cyprus Institute, offers access to this innovative technology. The effective use of the advantages of GPUs requires specialised programming skills. Aim of the training workshop is an overview of these programming concepts. The following lectures will be given during the workshop:
- Parallel programming with OpenACC directives,
- Introduction into Multi-GPU programming.
The lectures will include hands-on sessions. Participants should bring a laptop for the tutorial session in the afternoon.
Workshop participation is free. In order to enable effective training, the number of participants is limited to 15. Please apply by filling the on-line questionnaire:

The application period will close on the 02/12/2012. Participants will be selected based on the prospect of using the taught knowledge in GPU applications on Cy-Tera.
