Imaging in complex areas continues to be a challenge, especially for land seismic methods. High-angle fault imaging, velocity inversion and static corrections for high lateral variations on weathered and sub-weathered terrain are some of the issues to discuss in this workshop. Illumination challenges are not limited to seismic processing techniques, but also for seismic acquisition parameterization and practical implementation. Integration of high-resolution gravity and magnetic techniques and possibly magnetotellurics, can substantially improve subsurface interpretation. Formal joint inversion of geophysical data may be the next step in this evolution.

Within exploration and reservoir geophysics, the characterization of the reservoir using state-of-the-art practices is a procedure that continuously experiences changes in trend, workflows and algorithms. We will focus primarily on new seismic interpretation techniques, time-lapse (4D) seismic interpretation for dynamic characterization techniques, AVA and uncertainty analysis, preferably for practical applications and case studies. Emerging technologies, such as time-lapse microgravity, are also of interest.

We encourage submissions of case histories of imaging or reservoir characterization from South America, as well as from analogous geologic settings, such as the foreland basins of the Rocky Mountains or Himalayas. This workshop also provides a unique opportunity to discuss special challenges within the overlap of the two topics, namely characterizing and monitoring reservoirs in areas of complex geology.
