Joint SESAME-LinkSCEEM2 Summer School (SESAME, Amman, Jordan. from 17-19 July, 2011) - First Announcement 

Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME), European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) and the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of the Cyprus Institute (CyI) are organizing jointly the first Joint Summer School within the LinkSCEEM-2 project, that will be held at SESAME in Amman - Jordan. The school aims to enhance the knowledge of current HPC users, and to engage new user communities in the use of HPC infrastructure in synchrotron related research. The school will take place from 17th to 19th of July 2011 at SESAME site in Allan, Jordan. The school will include a 2-day  advanced training course with lectures and hands-on sessions in the field of synchrotron and HPC related applications, and, a User Meeting where synchrotron and HPC users in the region will be able to present their work and projects, and the related computational needs.

 

Financial Support  

Limited funds are available to meet travel and hotel expenses for some participants. You may request the financial support by clearly indicating this on the Registration Form.

 

Registration
- The minimum qualification required for participation is Master's of Science.
- There is no registration fee. Registration is open until 20 June 2011.

- It is recommended that participants bring their own laptops for the hands-on sessions  since training facilities does not provide PCs. Participants are also

   encouraged to  work in teams of two.
- Selection of participants will be based on their qualifications as declared in the registration form.

 

Programme
The training programme is under development by the scientific programme committee.
The main subjects to be covered in the training sessions are the advanced modules in:
- Synchrotron based X-Ray Diffraction (SXRD)
- GPU programming with CUDA and OpenCL
More details on the programme will be put online when available.

 

Visa Information 
Visas are issued from Jordanian Diplomatic  and Consular Missions abroad or from major ports of entry according to regulations. You can find a Jordanian Embassy in your country by visiting the Jordanian diplomatic missions worldwide web page. The SESAME upon request can issue a letter of invitation for the purpose of obtaining an entry visa for Jordan.
