Joint PRACE/LinkSCEEM-2 CyI 2011 Winter School

E-mail Print
The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of the Cyprus Institute (CyI), together with the Greek Research and Technology Network (GRNET), are organizing the 2011 Programming Winter School for the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE-1IP) at the CyI Athalassa Campus in Nicosia, Cyprus during 24-27 January 2011. The school is co-organized with the LinkSCEEM-2 project 2011 Advanced Training Workshop.
The Winter School is part of the PRACE-1IP project’s education and training task, which aims at preparing and initiating a European High Performance Computing (HPC) education and training for scalable computing. Similarly, the school is part of the LinkSCEEM-2 project training activities aiming to prepare the Eastern Mediterranean scientific community for the use of HPC systems.

The Winter School agenda will address the training needs of current and prospective HPC users both from Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean. During the school, researchers and students will be trained on advanced topics such as programming models and optimization techniques, specifics on MPI/OpenMP and hybrid programming, optimization and profiling. A refreshment course on modern programming languages will also be given as well as an introduction to performance analysis and debugging tools among others. The program will also include lectures on emerging HPC trends and paradigms. The Winter School will contain theoretical sessions followed by hands-on training to enable deep understanding of the HPC topics covered. Trainees will be given access to two prototype HPC systems at CaSToRC. For more information please contact the local organizing committee at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. About PRACE: The Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE) is an international nonprofit association with its seat in Brussels. The PRACE Research Infrastructure (RI) provides a persistent world-class High Performance Computing (HPC) service for scientists and researchers from academia and industry. The PRACE leadership systems form the apex of the performance pyramid and are well integrated into the European HPC ecosystem. The preparation and implementation of the PRACE RI receive EC funding under grants RI-211528 and FP7-261557.

About LinkSCEEM-2: The LinkSCEEM-2 project aims at the establishment of a HPC eco-system in the Eastern Mediterranean region by interlinking and coordinating regional compute, storage and visualization resources to form an integrated e-infrastructure. The main project objective is to enable scientific research in the region by engaging and supporting research communities with an initial emphasis in the fields of climate research, digital cultural heritage and synchrotron applications. To achieve its mission, the project will link e-resources, provide user support and training, carry out targeted networking activities, and, develop and implement a well-structured HPC resource allocation mechanism. LinkSCEEM-2 receives EC funding through grant RI- 261600.
